Instead of buying cut flowers, which used insecticides, water, transporting energy including cooling all the way (airfreight, of course), spend your money on a piece of (living) rainforest. It would be rather generous, but e.g. to buy and protect 10,000 sqft in middle America costs less than $200 (2007). Usually you can also get a small certificate where you can have a dedication printed on. Will sure last longer than the average 10 day life time of cut-flowers.
