Use less of everything
We are not aware there are any doubts about that: there are too many people living on earth to live sustainable with current lifestyles. Would it make a difference for you to use 20% less soap for washing your hands - probably not. Would it make a difference for the environment if 20% less soap would be used - hell yes! Go ahead and use less detergents, water softener salt, post-it notes, windshield fluid, lawn fertilizer, silicon caulk, shower gel, beverage cans, aluminum foil, hair spray, plastic bags, energy.

E.g. shampoo: Here is "evidence" it'll do with half as well, and probably is healthier anyway: NPR: "When It Comes To Shampoo, Less Is More". In Italy and Spain they get along with half of it.
