WWF Earth Hour
3/28/2009 -- WWF Earth Hour
Have you heard of WWF Earth Hour ? It's taking place today, March 28, from 8:30-9:30 PM. Landmarks and tourist attractions like the Eiffel Tower, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Acropolis in Athens will not be illuminated in the hour between 8:30-9:30 PM. Businesses and people like you and me can also be part of "VOTE EARTH" by signing up and turning off all lights today for that one hour.
Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour to save energy and in order to protect the climate.
2008 already 50 million people switched off their lights and this years' goal is is that 1 billion people are switching off their lights as part of a global vote. "[This] is not about what country you're from, but instead, what planet you're from" .
We are not living anywhere near the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty, the Acropolis, or the Golden Gate Bridge. But South Bend is well known for the University of Notre Dame and I just found out that they are also participating. So in a little more than 30 minutes the Golden Dome and "Touchdown Jesus" will be in the dark for one hour ... mmmh ... need to RUN, will finish this entry later ... will bring some pictures ... :)

We are (still) sitting in the dark, searching youtube for "Earth Hour"- here another more or less random pick - some of the footage makes you think ...
